Kathy Thomson

Thomson was chief of staff at The Los Angeles Times from 2008 to 2009. She returned in 2011 as president and chief operating officer, a job in which she oversaw editorial operations, advertising sales, marketing and business services.

She spent 15 years at DirecTV, rising from a financial analyst to become Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. She was Chief of Staff of The Los Angeles Times from 2008-2009, returning in 2011 as the President and Chief Operating Officer where she guided latimes.com into the digital age. Between her two stints at The Times, Kathy was Vice President of Business Operations at Flo TV Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm. In 2013, Kathy went to work for SiriusXM satellite radio as the Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President. According to Jim Meyer, SiriusXM Chief Executive, “She built the SiriusXM marketing organization into possibly the best in all of subscription media.” Kathy passed away surrounded by her family on August 6, 2017.
