Mock City Council Workshop

Skateboard Park at Marine Park?
All students will be participating in this workshop and will be given a role.
Parents are invited to watch and attend the Recognition Ceremony and Party.
Recognition Ceremony and Party will take place across the parking lot at the MB Community Room in the Police/Fire Building.
Each student was given a role in this simulation. Students were divided up into two teams. Students on Team #1 had a mayor, city council members, park and rec director, audience members etc.. Team #2 had the the same plus a few members of staff. Each team had a resolution before them to vote on whether the city should move forward on applying for a grant to build a skateboard park at Marine Park in Manhattan Beach. “City Council members” sat in the actual chairs and asked questions of staff, and the audience members spoke for and against the resolution to persuade council. Those assigned to “audience members pro and con” played a key role in offering their opinions to sway the City Council.
